Art appreciation and 'making' things have been a part of my soul my entire life. Although I began my painting endeavors with watercolors, in recent years I have been working in oils and acrylics as well. Each of these mediums has qualities I enjoy exploring as I sharpen and improve my competence to "see" as an artist does!
The New England landscape, in particular, has been an endless source of inspiration because of its natural beauty, but also because of the history reflected in New England architecture. The New England landscape is so varied, as are the stories reflected in its weathered barns and antique structures. I also love to capture the way in which light and shadow influence the landscape.
I also enjoy flowers and still life subjects. They give me the opportunity to explore shapes, colors, values and the play of light - - which allows me to work in a looser style of painting.
It is often the simple pleasure of being aware - - of the light, color or quiet at a particular moment, or in a particular place - - that inspires me to paint.
